Welcome to Apple Class!
We are currently a mixed class of Nursery and Reception children aged 3-5years.
In Apple Class we recognise that children develop at their own pace and we carefully plan to meet individual needs. As a unit we value the children’s interests and ensure that learning is active, involving first hand experiences using cross-curricular topics that are set in meaningful contexts. Our aim is to improve the learning for all our children here at Crow Orchard and better prepare them for the move into year 1.
Our class value is CURISOITY.
Meet the team:
Mrs White - I am the EYFS Lead and class teacher. I work Monday-Wednesday and Friday. The wonderful Mrs Mason works with Apple Class every Thursday whilst I am out of class.
Mrs Fitzsimons – Is our fabulous Learning Facilitator who works in Apple Class every day.
Mrs Seddon – Is our amazing Nursery Learning Facilitator who works in Apple Class every day from 9am-12pm.
Mrs Heath - Is with us every morning delivering phase 1 phonics to Nursery.
Mrs Rostron - Delivering all things science on Monday afternoons.
Miss Johnson - Who kindly volunteers in Apple Class every afternoon.
Collectively we are a dedicated team of Early Years and Foundation Stage (EYFS) practitioners who provide a range of bespoke opportunities for your child to develop into curious and confident independent learners.
A typical full day session for Nursery:
SCHOOL STARTS AT 8:50am - Self Registration
Routines are practiced throughout the day.
Phonics -Phase 1 phonics concentrates on speaking and listening skills and lays the foundation for Phase 2 phonics.
Topic based provision – Children find their ‘mini me’ and complete a challenge linked to an area of development.
Rolling snack – The children are encouraged to try a range of different foods that vary in taste and texture.
(If you prefer a snack from home please do not send in crisps, chocolate, nuts or juice)
Independent Learning / Continuous Provision – Resources are provided for the children to learn independently. The children access continuous provision both indoors and outdoors throughout the day.
Mathematics – Focusing on numbers to 5, shape, space and numerical patterns. Learning through a wide range of hands-on practical activities by playing and exploring, active learning and thinking critically.
Topic based carpet session – The children are encouraged to ask questions and make connections to enhance their learning.
Continuous Provision – Linked to an area of development.
Story Time - Reading a daily story builds up the children's vocabulary and encourages a love of reading.
**Reading is an essential skill; it is important the children hear and see a range of books in school and at home to prepare them for reception**
A typical day in Autumn Term for Reception:

Mathematics – White Rose Maths. Reception children develop number sense and math's mastery acquiring a deep and adaptable understanding of the subject.

Mini me challenge / Continuous Provision – Linked to an area of development.
1:1 Readers – The adults in the classroom listen to the children read matched to their phonic ability.
Story Time - Reading a daily story builds up the children's vocabulary and encourages a love of reading.
**Reading is an essential skill we listen to readers daily and this should be practiced regularly at home**
On Monday Reception have PE with Shares Coach Azz. The children need a PE kit which will be kept in school and sent home at the end of very half term.
