Here at Crow Orchard Primary School, we believe that every child deserves the best possible start to school life. We promote high quality teaching and learning to ensure the children have a broad range of knowledge and skills that will support their progress throughout school.

We aim to ensure that all our pupils develop as individuals in a safe controlled environment.

As a unit we follow Development Matters which is a non-statutory guidance for supporting practitioners in implementing the statutory requirements of the EYFS. Development Matters covers seven areas of learning, consisting of three prime areas and four specific areas; Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED), Communication and Language (CL), Physical Development (PD), Literacy (L), Numeracy (N), Understanding the World (UtW) and Expressive Arts and Design (EAD). * see link below for more detailed information about Development Matters / Parent’s Guide to EYFS.

All the areas of learning and development are inter-connected and will be delivered through a combination of planned whole-class teaching sessions and small guided group work / purposeful play sessions, with a balance of adult-led and child-initiated activities.

This year we will be learning about the following topics; All About Me, Sparkle and Shine, Traditional Tales, Important People, Around the World and Under the Sea.

We know how important the Foundation Stage is to a child’s development and we strive to ensure that our children settle into school life and are supported to become happy, confident, independent learners.
