Year 5 & 6 2025 - 2026
Mrs McVey
Welcome to Gala Class!
Hello! I’m Mrs. McVey, the Gala Class teacher. I work closely with Mrs. Mason, who teaches on Monday afternoons and Thursdays, to make sure our class has a fun, engaging, and challenging curriculum. We’re also lucky to be supported by Mr. Murray, our well-being lead.
This year, Year 5 and Year 6 are learning together in a mixed class.
-
Mornings are all about English and Maths.
-
Afternoons are filled with our wider curriculum, including Computing, PE, Art, DT, History, Geography, Music, RE, and PSHE.
Our school values—Love, Growth, and Strength—are at the heart of everything we do.
PE is on Monday mornings with our fantastic coach, Kelly. Please remember to come to school in your PE kit and trainers on this day.
In Maths, we follow the White Rose scheme, and this term we’re exploring place value, addition and subtraction, and space. We’re also excited to take part in the Mastering Number programme, which helps us build confidence and speed with multiplication.
Check out our curriculum map to see all the areas we’ll be covering this half term.
Every child has a reading book, and we encourage them to read at least three times a week.
For our Year 6 children, SATs week will be Monday 11th – Thursday 14th May 2026.
We’ve got lots of exciting things ahead this year, including our residential trip to PGL in the summer!
