A big warm welcome to Apple Class!

Our class value is CURIOSITY

We have a fantastic team working in our EYFS unit to ensure all our children settle into their new class.

Meet the Team

Mrs White – EYFS Lead / Class Teacher Wednesday - Friday

Mrs Fitzsimons – Nursery Lead Practitioner

Mrs Rostron – Class Teacher Monday

Mrs Maher – Class Teacher Tuesday

Mrs Niblock – Early Years Learning Facilitator

Mrs Seddon – Early Years Learning Facilitator

Mrs Storey – Early Years Learning Facilitator

Together we will ensure that each child has the best start to school life.

It is important to us that your children settle into school with support to become happy, confident, CURIOUS and independent learners.

In our EYFS unit we follow Development Matters which is a non-statutory framework which covers seven areas of learning, consisting of three prime areas and four specific areas.
All the areas of learning and development are inter-connected and will be delivered through a combination of planned, purposeful play, with a balance of adult-led and child-initiated independent activities. In Reception the children will have more focused whole-class teaching sessions and small guided group work. Throughout the year we will develop different themes and topics by following the children’s interests and likes.

A typical day in Reception:

SCHOOL STARTS AT 8:50am - Self Registration

Routines are practiced throughout the day.

Phonics - Essential Letters and Sounds (ELS) this prepares the children to read and write

Independent Learning / Continuous Provision – Resources are provided for the children to learn independently. The children access continuous provision both indoors and outdoors throughout the day.

Literacy – Children find their ‘mini me’ and complete a challenge linked to an area of development.

Fresh Fruit / Snack – Fruit is available at all times of the day. Toast is offered during morning break for 20p / day. If you prefer a snack from home please do not send in crisps, chocolate, nuts or juice.

Mathematics – Reception children develop number sense and math's mastery acquiring a deep and adaptable understanding of the subject.

Topic based carpet session – The children are encouraged to ask questions and make connections to enhance their learning

Continuous Provision – Linked to an area of development.

1:1 Readers / Intervention– The adults in the classroom listen to the children read matched to their phonic ability. Intervention linked to literacy or mathematics.

Story Time - Reading a daily story builds up the children's vocabulary and encourages a love of reading.

*PE: Apple Class have a PE session on a Monday. All the children must to get changed into their PE Kits. PE kits will be sent home at the end of every half term to be washed.*

How you can support your child at home

Reading with your child on a regular basis supports many areas of their development and helps their concentration skills.
All Reception children will have a book to read at home. Please leave a comment when you have read with your little one stating what they enjoyed and what they found tricky.

Together let us make this an amazing year for your little learners!

We hope you are excited as we are to see what this year will bring,

We know it is going to be AWESOME ?
