Welcome to Discovery Class!

We are the Year 1 children and our teacher is Mrs Heath and our teaching assistant is Mrs Storey.

Our three main school values are Love, Growth and Strength.  These are under pinned by honesty, kindness and pride for love.  Aspiration, curiosity and creativity for growth and resilience and courage for strength.

Every morning we join in with Phonics, Maths and English and then in the afternoon we split up.  Some of us go to Apple Class and some go to Macintosh Class which is very exciting!   

A typical day in Discovery Class looks like this:

• Handwriting and Class Novel
• Assembly
• Home time at 3:25pm

For Phonics we follow Essential Letters and Sounds (ELS) and Mrs Heath and Mrs Storey deliver these sessions.  Phonics is taught daily from EYFS through to Year 2.  We will bring home an ELS reading book every Friday to read as many times as possible throughout the week.  Please read with us as often as you can.

In June we will complete a Phonics Screening Check to assess our phonic ability.

On Tuesday we have a Singing Assembly and on Friday we have a Celebration Assembly where parents are invited.  This is very exciting as we get presented with a special certificate in front of the whole school.

On Tuesday morning we have a PE session with our SHARES coach.  Children working in Macintosh class in the afternoon will also have a PE session of Friday afternoon.

We can come to school in our kits on these days.  Please make sure the children are wearing the correct kit - (see uniform/PE policy).

Coming soon we will be getting some spellings to learn at home and then we will have a test in class to see if we can spell them.  Please can Mum's and Dad's help to practice at home.
